Our Vision
A caring and connected community in which animals are valued, supported and safe.
Our Mission Statement
Saving one animal will not change the world, but surely for that one animal, the world will change forever.
The Northumberland Humane Society (NHS) is a charitable community resource dedicated to protecting and providing temporary shelter and comfort to all animals in need. We focus on the promotion, adoption and rehoming of animals surrendered to us by owners no longer able to care for their beloved pets or animals who have been abandoned.
NHS was established in 1966 and serves Northumberland County which includes the towns of Cobourg and Port Hope, plus Hamilton, Alnwick/Haldimand and Cramahe townships. Our shelter is located in Port Hope and provides a temporary home to hundreds of animals each year as they pass through our door on their way to new homes.
The NHS receives no financial support from any level of government and therefore must rely on the generous support of the local community. Without this support, many animals would not be given a second chance at a happy and healthy life.
Our Team
The NHS team is comprised of a dedicated group committed to the protection and comfort to all animals in need. All inquiries can be sent to info@northumberlandhs.com to be answered by the appropriate team member.
